Miss Independent

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. (James 4:10 KJV)

It's too easy to make you mad, you're quick to get angry. How dare anyone talk about you, make you upset, or even attempt to hurt your feelings. How dare someone not move on your time, hop when you say hop, dance when you say dance. How dare they not do what you say do when you say do it. You are the master facilitator and everyone must follow your lead. For your family you set the pace. Amongst your friends you're the ring leader. In a group of randomly selected people you're the star and everyone must recognize you as such. People need to move when you walk and people must listen when you speak. You're wonderful, fantastic, and perfect so much so that you don't need anybody for anything. Miss Independent please come take several seats.

Your truth is that you've been hurt and you're still hurting. You've been let down to the point where you now have issues. You're mean, you have a bad attitude, and your gaze is intimidating, that's not ok. You're difficult to work with, bossy, and narcissistic which tends to rub passionate volunteers the wrong way. Yes, people admire you from a far, but you discourage their pursuit to know you because of your disorderly conduct everywhere. The time for you to change has expired and people are getting tired of tip toeing around you. Miss Independent please have a seat.

The world does not revolve around you, and you at the center of attention is not a requirement. Things will not always go your way, and people will not always tell you what you want to hear. There will come a day when you realize that you can't save the world because you couldn't save yourself. You couldn't die on the cross that the world might have a right to the tree of life and you can not get to God without Jesus. You are not the exception to every rule and you don't know it all. You haven't done it all, you've not seen it all. I recommend more seats.

Deep down inside you have been blessed with a beautiful spirit, but because you abuse your authority others are not able to see. So many people look up to you, so many people have been inspired by your work, but even more have been discouraged because of your hurtful words. Before you say anything, think about the power of words and much better the situation world be if you used the power within to speak life. Think about how positive your day would be if you changed your perspective. Think about how much God loves you and share that love with others. Remember how many time you were down or caught up in somethings that only God could help you out of and humble yourself. Humble yourself that people might be inspired to come to Christ. Humble yourself that you might come to a place where you can truly be happy knowing that you don't need anyone, but God to validate you. Humble yourself that you might experience genuine love from those who care about you most. Humble yourself that you might experience the privilege of peace that surpasses all understanding. When in doubt know that Christ will work it out and that no weapon formed against you shall prosper because you serve a God is able to do anything, but fail.

Let us bow:
Heavenly Father,

You've allowed us to come to a place where we are not as bad off as we once were and we say thank you. You've allowed us to come to a place of abundance and overflow and so we say thank you. You've blessed us in a mighty way, and somehow we may have forgotten about you and for that we ask your forgiveness. You've blessed us and somewhere along the way we began to give ourselves more credit than we should have and we apologize, and ask that you come into our hearts and make us over that we might continue to do the work of your kingdom giving you all praise, glory, and honor for it is the mighty name of the Christ we pray, Amen!
