The Weigh In

"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." -Phillipians 3:14

We're a little ways off from January first. The place where we recommitted ourselves to God and proclaimed from our balconies, churches, and resolution prayers that 2014 would be our year, and that God was doing a new thing in 2014. God granted us a mental elevation that we might be prepared for what was going to take place this year and we started out spiritually dressed and prepared for the spiritual work out that was designed to take us one step closer to our dreams, visions, and goals. We had on our spiritual tennis shoes that were suppose to serve as vessels that would root us in our path of promises to Jesus for the year. You remember we promised to remove anyone who was no good for us from our lives. We promised to stay motivated and to keep pushing in hard times. We committed to reading God's word more and fasting and praying. We committed to get our house in order that we might be able to receive all that God had for us because we knew in our hearts that this was a new season, we could sense a mighty move of God, but we looked around, turned astound and now see only a little progress.

We've looked at our progress and the last time we prayed in our prayer journal is January 1st. We've been to church, but for no other reason than to be on the program, or baby sit the infrastructure that is the church building because our temples are defiled and filthy and we can't remember whether or not we made Jesus our choice. We have turned off a detrimental turn up, we haven't worked to change the aspects of our character that hinder us from hurting other people with our words. We haven't worked towards the person that God has called us to be. We've been everything, but receptive of the move that God is doing in the lives of the people around us because we felt like God passed us by. We've come to a place where we don't even wanna go through the remainder of the year to see what God has in store for us there, we just want to experience our birthday and be on to 2015 where we intend to reset our expectations and reaffirm our faith in him who created us.

Let's be honest, it's been real and things have been falling apart for way too long. We gave up well before we tried and quit yet again when things got hard. We pressed and then once we began to break a spiritual sweat we stopped pushing. We failed to take personal time to reflect and get ourselves together and so we mistakingly rest on phrases like, "God is still working on me," and "God knows my heart," to excuse ourselves from our commitment to do better. Already not even half way into the year we've turned our backs on the people who really love us, to elevate people who don't. We've shut God out to let the world in, thinking that we're on our way any how, but God says that this is not so.

Therefore I challenge you, no, God through his word gives all of us the charge to get spiritually fit. He has given us all instructions to rid ourselves of the gossip and idol time that sometimes consumes our thoughts. God has asked that we lay off of the things that may come to distract us from his purpose upon our lives and that we regularly check in via prayer and supplication. God strongly recommends that we take a bite of the bread of life and allow the living water to consume our intake that we might be filled with the spirit of the living God. He's even gone so far as to grant us a trainer by the name of Jesus who said in his word that he would never leave or forsake us. It is with these instructions that I encourage you to weigh in. I encourage you to stand up and step up to the plate of life that you might take you place in the tabernacle of the living God where the table is spread and the feast of The Lord is going on. Breakthrough is in plain sight, but it's impossible to get from point A to point B if you never leave point A to begin with. Some of us are literally forgetting to exercise our faith for without faith it is impossible to please God. Others of us have strong faith, but lack discipline and consistency and so we find ourselves in a pattern of being every now and then saints. Full of temporary I love you's and useless I'm here for you all when we can do so much better. Let's step up, and do what we know is right because we serve a God who has never led us astray who said that he would always be with us.

Let us bow:

Grant us your grace Lord that we might come to a place where our spirit naturally submits to your will and way. Help us to spiritually get fit and stay fit that we might be able to minister effectively and worship freely in a way such that people will see your work and us and come to ask the question what must I do to be saved. We honor and adore you for you are worthy to be praised and it is in the name of Jesus that we pray, Amen!
